Another gem on the Oregon Coast is Fort Stevens State Park, on the coast of which you can find the site of the wreck of the Peter Iredale. The multi-masted steel cargo ship ran aground here in 1906.

There are lots of camping options in the park and it's about 20 minutes away from the port city of Astoria, OR on the Columbia River. Sunrise on the beach near the shipwreck is not to be missed!

The shipwreck is just down the dunes from the nearest parking lot, which is quite large, has bathrooms, and is horse-trailer friendly. It makes getting your horse to the site a breeze.
